發勁的異、同-The difference of the power-push -1

Can you find out the difference between the 1st power push and 2nd one?
If so, then you will realize why we call the key point of ZongYue Taichi (Taiji) is the fingers and palms, just like 2nd one shows.

Our energy is not go through leg to hand. It go out from fingers and palms directly.

你能看出第一個發勁動作和第二個發勁動作的區別嗎?當你看出來的時候,你會發現整個力的傳導是完全不同的,我們宗岳門太極拳講究的是指掌領勁,而不是一般所說的湧泉發勁,學者不可不明辨啊!

拳經:其根在腳,發生於腿,主宰於腰,行於手指,由腳而腿而腰總須完整一氣,乃能得機得勢。
"其根在腳,發生於腿,主宰於腰"這裡指的是結構,"行於手指"才是指動作的運行起始。
"由腳而腿而腰總須完整一氣"這裡指的仍然是身上的結構。所有的論證,都是有大前提的,這裡的大前提是"手為先、指掌領勁",當大前提成立時,要求其他項目,這樣就可以達到"得機得勢"的情形。

整個來說,就是一伸手,就要周身一家,結構都調好,手領而動。

在經過颱風的洗禮之後,終於處理完影片檔,請兩位師兄多注重外三合的練習來修正影片中不足的部份。
After Typhoon, I finished the video file update. Here we can see that Mr. Chen and Mr. Liao need to focus on the outside-3-combinations for better movement.

9/9的練習: practice on 9/9

在經過了幾個月的洗禮之後,陳師兄和廖師兄開始進入第二個階段,也就是太極拳主動用法的階段,而不再只是單純的動作練習,而是加上主動意識去作出符合宗岳門太極拳要求的動作,這次練習是注重在主動式推掌的練習,這邊就會發現,當裡扣外擺步自我要求不夠時,在練習主動推掌就會產生一些無法達成外三合要求的情形,這個,真的是需要回去多加練習。
我將在週末時放上當時錄製的影片。

After several month practice, Mr. Chen and Mr. Liao step into the 2nd level, the active movement. Not movement practice only anymore. In this level, we have to using our mind control to do the movement which is follow ZongYue Taichi (Taiji) requirement. Here we will find that when the basic trainning is not good enough, most people will do the incorrect movement, especially the 3 combinations outside. We do need to practice more for the basic trainning.

8/23 及8/30 道館的拜訪: Visit on 8/23 & 8/30

在8/23及8/30分別有兩位友人來拜訪中壢火車站附近的行健館,Roy Chan因工作關係,從美國加州來台兩週,特地在8/23到本館拜訪時(他也於8/21去拜訪布武道館),提出了許多的問題,討論了很多,不過,在身上尚未建立椿的結構及無法運用基本技法(身法、手法、步法),直接談論中、後期所學習的觀念,容易產生以自己原有之觀念去解釋宗岳門太極拳的情形,而會無法真正去體會宗岳太極拳的內在。

8/30時,中央大學體育教授姚老師也到本館做短暫的拜訪,並由姚老師示範柔道中的捲法的"捲進",柔道中的"捲進"是一個招式,而宗岳門中的"捲落"則是一個動作運行的法則,雖然不同,但其含義中仍然有部份的相似。但,還是有其根本的不同,所以我們在解釋名稱時,要更加小心,避免學的人產生誤會。

There were two friends visited our dojo seperately on 8/23 and 8/30.
Roy Chan came from California to visit Taiwan for business, and he contact us for this visit two weeks before he visited. (He also visited Buwu dojo on 8/21.) When he visited on 8/23, he asked a lot of questions. I tried to answer all the questions he asked, but that is really tough for both of us.
Roy Chan's body didn't have the structure which we build by our stand in ZongYue Taichi (Taiji). He didn't have the movement-track when he move, either. That is difficult for him to understand how we use our track. Due to time limitation, I suggest him to learn with us for a short time trainning. Hope he can accept that.

Professor Yao visited us on 8/30. He teaches Taichi, Judo, Self-defense, and somer other classes in National Central University in Taiwan. He show us the "Roll-Down" (Juan-Luo) in Judo. In Judo, it's a attacking movement. However, in ZongYue Taichi (Taiji) the "Roll-Down" (Juan-Luo) is a basic component of movement. That's really a big difference for Judo and ZongYue Taichi (Taiji). People need to find out the real meaning of the same noun in different school to prevent realizing the incorrect think.

8/23的練習: practice on 8/23

今天和廖師兄主要注重在接手的練習,從四掌點、平行疊臂到引勁落空,再再都是要遵循著我們宗岳門太極拳所要求的動作、軌跡,一個環節接著一個環節,每次練習都要以達到自己所能達到的最佳狀況去要求自己,這樣,太極拳的功夫才會慢慢的深入我們日常生活中的每個動作。

We practice how to take (or receive) the attack. From 4-Palm-points, parallel arms, and Luo-Kong. All those requirements need us to follow the ZongYue Taichi rules and tracks step by step. People need to do their best in each practice, and then the rules will start to influence all our daily movement. That's what we practice for.

8/16的練習: practice on 8/16

今天練習上翻肘接手外上指天的打法,不過看起來,蠻像外面太極拳所示範的玉女穿梭或是扇通臂。我個人是認為這樣的打法是可運用的。

Today we focus on Up-Turn Elbow work together with Punch-up to sky. I am not so sure if you can really gain something from the video, but I do know Mr. Chen and Mr. Liao will know what they need to improve when they see this video.

今天我們的練習,回歸到上翻肘、下壓肘及返身大纏的訓練,請參考以下影片。
目前我還找不到將畫面轉九十度的方法,請多見諒。
Our practice today focus on Up-Turn elbow, Down-Turn elbow, and Turn-back Body Grand Twist Skill.

防身2- Self-defense-2

在討論過防身的基本概念後 ,我們將進入遭遇歹徒時的防身需知。

首先我們要認清,防身最重要的,不是技巧,也不是力量,而是知識。
知識讓我們知道如何去運用防身的三大要素
1.隨時對周遭環境和人保持警戒心。
2.控制心中的恐懼。
3.了解人體最關鍵的弱點。

通常人都會對日常環境或熟人放鬆警戒心,這是很多案件發生的主要因素,當人沒有警戒心,就容易被成功的襲擊。
而當人遭到襲擊時,心中的恐懼會產生兩種極度不同的情形,一種是因恐懼產生求生存的意志,進而在身體內產生巨大的能量而讓人發揮出潛能來求生;另一種則是被恐懼擊倒,身體僵硬,無法動彈,所以,保持冷靜以取回恐懼對身體的控制權是需要的。
第三則是要知道該攻擊什麼部位,這關係到是否能造成歹徒的傷害,進而逃脫。
幾個重要的人體要害介紹如下:
眼球:當用24Kg的力量去按壓眼球時(撲面掌、高探馬),眼球將會破裂,我們有沒有這麼強的力量呢?或許沒有,但微小的力量就足以造成眼球劇痛而干擾大腦運作而讓對方無法行動。
雙耳:超過10Kg的力量就可以打破耳膜,也就是當我們用大力打蚊子的力量拍打對方雙耳時,對方就可能被打破耳膜而造成的嚴重害(雙峰貫耳)。
咽喉:分成兩種攻擊型式,一種是直接打擊,如手刀,一種是用手指捏,直接打擊超過23Kg就會造成頸部氣管破裂(斜飛);而當手指捏超過13Kg時,也可達到同樣的效果(單邊吊勾手)。
恥骨:直接打擊將會傷害到整個骨盆的結構而造成對手無法站立(指擋捶)
上面介紹的都是十分危險的要害,希望大家只有在生命受到嚴重危害時,才考慮去攻擊。
Today, we will discuss the method to handle the bad guy.
We need to know the real secret is not skills or power, but knowledge.
Knowledge will let us know how to use the three key ideas.
1.Keep situation awareness: prepare for danger no mater where you are and who you are with.
2. Control fear
3.Know body's critical weakness

People normally will be attacked in the area where they are very familiar with. Because they do know the are, they usually forget to prepare for danger. That's why we put this as the first.

Control fear is so important. People will have two extremly different react when they feel fear. The first one is the good one; people will gain energy to prepare the danger from fear. However, most people will have only the 2nd react; they would loss their body control and fear will lock the whole body movement.

The 3rd one is to know the body's critical weakness. Can we escape? This is the key.
We will introduce you some critical weakness in this artical.
1. Eye ball: When people press over 24Kg, the eye ball will break easily. We don't need that power to stop the bad guy. We just need a little pressure to make the bad guy get hurt.
2. Ear: We only need to use the power as we clap, the opponent will get hurt. Actually, the power over 10kg will break the tympanum.
3.Throat: a. by pounch, over 23Kg will break the throat.
b. by finger press: over 13Kg will break the throat.
4.Sharebone: pounch here will damage the whoe born-balance system.

Those 4 weakness of body are very dangerous. Please note not to use those skill in the daily life.

8/2的練習: practice on 8/2

這次課程中我們複習了許多介紹過的練習方式及原因,在第二個小時中,主要練習是推掌的組手,要能做到在整個推掌的過程中都有椿力的存在,才能夠自己檢視動作是否正確,進而才能做到武禹襄大師所說的"敷、蓋、對、吞"中的對法。

對:對者,以氣對來處,認定準頭而去也。

下面是兩位師兄推掌的練習記錄。
We reviewed a lot of practice in today's lesson and focus on Push Palm track in the 2nd hour. People have to keep the structure in the whole Push Palm track to defense the opponenet's power.

7/26的練習: practice on 7/26

今天我們介紹了帶掌及領掌的基本組手,在多次的練習之後,廖師兄及陳師兄已經基本了解了推、托、帶、領四種掌法,下面是兩位師兄推掌的練習記錄。

Today I introduced Bring-forward Palm and Guide-Palm to Mr. Liao and Mr. Chen. After practicing, now they realize the basic concept and function of ZongYue Taichi 4 Palm skills.

電影-赤壁---Movie: Red Cliff

赤壁,是一場中國歷史上極為著名的戰爭,這一戰,造成了中國數十年的三分之勢,這部電影,只是其中的前傳,但已經十分精采。

片中,趙雲的表現不俗,雖然有很多時候他都是把槍當棍用,不過,仔細想來,在戰場上,敵人多不可數,若身邊已經被敵人攻入,槍尖只能守一方之敵,把槍當棍使,似乎是個不得已但必需的保命之道。另外,關羽在八卦陣中的表現也極為出色,用敵人的武器殺敵,當手上兵器刺入敵人身上後,逕行奪下被殺的敵人手中的兵器,這樣就不愁手中無兵器的困擾,只是電影中拍攝的手法是從關羽力大無比,雙手一握一收,對方兵器就被硬奪下來,雖然不是我們宗岳門所講鬆柔去拿人的兵器,但也是一個相當震憾人心且實用(如果力量強如關羽的話)的做法。

武將中,唯一令我失望的是張飛,片中完全是個莽夫,什麼都不懂,連和敵人動手都是赤手空拳硬打,和我心中差距太大了。其實,能名留千古之人,甚少有笨蛋的,只是張飛被三國演義這本書描述成一個什麼都不知道的老粗,正史中,張飛在長阪坡之戰,斷橋後設疑兵之計騙過曹純,在益州增援戰用計智擒嚴顏,在漢中之戰用計打敗張郃,三國志-張飛列傳中,張飛,涿鹿人士,善丹青草書;只是被羅貫中所醜化,現在電影又將其以一個大老粗的形象演出,看來張飛平反之日遙遙無期了。

Red Cliff is the most famous war in Chinese history. There were several years which China divided to three countries. This movie is very impressive for me even it is just the beginning of the Red Cliff War.

In the movie, Yun Zhao presents a pretty good martial art style, although he use the spear as a stick sometimes. But, if we consider the real situation in the war field, we use spear-head to kill or defense the enemy in front of us without considering other side of our body. We do need to use the spear as a stick to protect ourselves.

Yu Guan shows the fantastic skills to use enemy's weapon to kill enemy. He took off enemy's weapon when he cut or stabbed the enemy. He always give up his weapon when the weapon is "in" the enemy's body, and that is really useful skill to take a new& sharp weapon from the enemy. Although the movie shows Yu Guan is very powerful and nobody can hold the weapon if he grap to take off. In ZongYue Taiji (Taichi), we prefer to use no power skill to do this kind of actions.

Fei Zhang is the only general who I disappoint in this movie. Fei Zhang is a foolhardy perosn in the movie. Actually, in the ancient China, the general must not the foolish person, especially if a famous general who was using several tricks to fool the enemy in the real history. He also capture and induce to capitulate another famous general, Yan Yan. Actually, Fei Zhang is good at not only the martial art but also painting and penmanship. It looks like Fei Zhang will not have his original image for a long time.

行健館發展方向-Xing-Jian Class Next Step in Taipei

行健館未來的發展仍舊朝向國際化、年輕化及實用化發展,並且規劃往台北市發展,目前正積極尋找台北火車站及信義區附近的教學場地,年底前將依報名人數斟酌場地位置及開班時段。
ZongYue Taiji (Taichi) - Xing-Jian Class will keep globalize, and try to maintain the practicality of the fighting skill.
We are still survey the area around Taipei main station and Taipei-101. Xing-Jian Class will announce the related information (time, and location...etc) in the end of 2008 by how many applicant.

7/19的練習: practice on 7/19

今天主要講解托掌的組手及四掌點接手的基本練習,這可是十分重要且實用的應敵手法,細節在使用掌上的四個掌點,依序去接觸對手,進而達到控制對手的目的。重點就在點點位移要保持不跳空的狀況。

We focus on the "Hold Palm" and 4-palm-points practice. The 4-palm-points practice is a very useful & important skills to control our opponent when we touch our opponent sequentially.
The key point is we must keep the palm move point by point without any jump over.

宗岳門主要架構-Main Structure of ZongYue Taichi

宗岳門主要的架構其實相當簡單,易於了解:

1.由有力技術練到無力技術:在本門內,無力技術較有力技術高級(就本門而言,非關其他派別,無力技術又有分有內勁及無內勁技術,這待日後討論)

2.先練大纏再練小纏,追求大纏可隨時變小纏,小纏也可隨時變大纏

3.四種需練習的化解方法:中平肘、上翻肘、下壓肘及返身大纏

4.手法共有推、托、帶、領等四個掌法,及指天、插地兩種拳法。

The main structure of ZongYue Taiji (Taichi):
The first two are for the movement principle.
The final two are for the using & trainning skills.

1. The no-muscle-power (as less as we can) skill is our focus. (This rule is only for ZongYue Taiji, not for other kind of Taiji or martial art.)

2. People need to learn Grand twist skill then samll twist skill and try to combin two skill into one. Grand twist should transfer to small twist skill in the movement (track).

3. Four different track for avert (eliminate) opponent's power.
a. Middle plane elbow
b. Up-turn elbow
c. Down-turn elbow
d. Turn-back Body Grand Twist Skill

4. Four palm track and two different fist-punch.
a. Push-Palm (Push-out)
b. Hold-Palm (Push-in, not pull-in)
c. Bring-forward Palm (from front to our body-shoulder)
d. Guide-Plam (From our body-shoulder out)
e. Punch-up to sky
f. Punch-down to ground

7/12的練習: practice on 7/12

今天進度為上翻肘行進練習,此為在學習裡扣外擺步、上翻肘及外三合片旋技術後的組合技巧。這是宗岳門獨特可使學員快速學會內家武學的教學法門。
The main topic today is to practice the up-turn elbow in moving. People have to learn the special walking way, "inside hook and outside throw(kick)", and up-turn elbow. And then people have to learn 3 outside combination.
This is the way we teach people to practice the Taichi (Taiji).

鍛鍊方法--Trainning method

最近和一個朋友聊天聊到,他認為練太極拳中,學習"使用技巧"遠比"鍛鍊自己身上材質"來得簡單,這裡其實他犯了一個天大的謬思而不自知。

這邊,友人自己設了幾個假設而不自知,首先,鍛鍊的方式一定是正確的,第二,老師一定會教使用技巧並且他一定學得會,而且之前鍛鍊出來的身體不會妨礙技巧的使用。


在真實的情況是,不確定如何使用太極拳時,去鍛鍊出來的身體,不一定能適合太極拳,當學習到使用法後,很相當大的可能性需要重新鍛鍊自己的身體。

我個人以為,比較優良的練習方式是,從學習"使用技巧"中去練習鍛鍊自己的身體,很多人一昧的半蹲去追求鍛鍊身體、練氣,在技擊上的功能實在是有限,這就如同頂尖的游泳選手也會去做重量訓練以增強局部肌力來增強實力,但主要訓練仍是游泳,但如果有人先從重量訓練鍛練身體再去學游泳,一個不小心就會練出不勻稱的肌肉,反而增加阻力,怎麼也到不了頂尖選手的水平。

一般練國術的朋友又何嚐不是如此呢!一昧不求甚解的半蹲,就想要成為高手,認為使用法是隨便就可以學會的,這不是和上面說的那先練重量訓練再學游泳的人一樣了嗎?更何況,太極拳那麼的困難,幾乎老師不講,學生自己是摸索不出來的,那面對一個能使用大鬆大柔戰技又願意指導的老師,學生能不虛心的受教嗎?

今日若不是和朋友聊,我還不知,原來,教使用法,居然會被人說,只能騙騙外行人,難怪柔道、空手道、跆拳道等,學習的人數遠比學習國術的人多。

I have a conversation with one of my friend about Taichi (Taiji). He believe that learning how to use Taichi fighting skill is much easier than building up body structure. Here he made a terrible mistake without knowing that.

He set 2 rules:
1st, his trainning method is already correct, so he doesn't need to learn how to build up body structure to suit the Taichi fighting skills.
2nd, the master wants to teach him all the skills and he can learn those skills very soon with the body structure which he built up with the method possible incorrect.

The real world is when people don't know how to use the fighting skills, they would trainning themselves with incorrect method due to they don't know how to judge which way is correct and which way is incorrect.

Once people learn how to use the fighting skills, they would need to re-build up their body to use those skills for more efficiency.

In my opinion, I believe people should learn how to use the skill, and the master should teach how to build up body structure for this skill when the master teach that skill. In this way, people can correct their movement and build up correct body for this kind of exercise.

Just like swimming athlete has trainning with weight trainning. But if people train themselves beginning with weight trainning to build up bodies. Their bodies will have a high possibility to increase the water resister. They would need to re-build up their bodies again for reduce the water resister if they would like to become an athlete.

I am really sad to see a lot of people who practice traditional Chinese Kung Fu doing half-squat and wish themselves can become masters by this way.
Please do that after you really do know what is half-squat for and how to do half-squat.

My friend also told me that he believe that a master teaches how to use the fighting skills can only play with people who don't know anything about the martial art.

However, a master who teach not only how to use the fighting skills but also how to use fighting skills to correct the trainning method. That should be a good master to learn from.

今天主要練習的是推掌及上翻肘纏摔,推掌的基本的原理、卸化的軌跡和下壓肘相近。 下面是陳師兄、廖師兄的練習及我的示範。
We practice the Push-Palm and Up-turn elbow throwing today. The main track of Push-Palm movement is similiar to Down-turn elbow. Below is Mr. Chen's, Mr. Liao's practice, and also mine.

We practice the Up-side down pounch and Up-turn elbow throwing today. The main track of these two movement is similiar.

6/14的練習: practice on 6/14

在今天的練習中,有兩位來訪的客人,一位是我當初在在美國認識的Riker,另一位則是他妹,基於宗岳門神奇的訓練法,我們可以在一天的時間內,就將基本的五弓椿及基本的小纏發勁讓這兩位沒受過什麼拳術正式訓練的人學會這樣的技巧,宗岳門的練習方法實在是傳統武學訓練的一大突破!

雖然Riker及湯小姐家住台北,短時間內不會至本館學習,但Riker已表示對宗岳門太極拳的高度興趣,或許,可考慮到萬蓁道館學習。

本日廖師兄的進度是練習小纏發勁。而以下影片分別是Riker及湯小姐演練小纏發勁的狀況。
We have two visitors today. Riker, who is my roommate when I was in Texas, and his younger sister visited this class. Base on the magic trainning method, people can learn the basic five-bow stand and the small twist skill in just one class. That's really an amazing thing for the traditional Chinese Kung-Fu trainning.

太極拳要怎麼練習才會進步 How to improve our skill when we practice Taichiquan?

有人說:「瘋子,是不斷地重複做著同樣的事情,卻期待有不同的結果。」雖然這是大家都能理解的事,但有太多太多的人,卻是身陷其中而不自知,有多少人日復一日、年復一年的在公園裡打著太極拳套路,雖然在學會套路後一直沒有武術、防身的進一步訓練,卻期望能在多年的學習之後,自然產生神奇的功夫可以防身、技擊,我們可以大聲的說,這是不可能的,面對經過訓練的對手,沒有充足的訓練,是不可能獲勝的。

就如同要學游泳,有很多教練會教學員在岸上學習手腳的動作,但在一段時間的訓練後,一定要進入水中做游泳的練習,在岸上的練習雖然也可以強身健體使身體健康,但學員是沒法子從岸上的練習學會水中的游泳的,雖然,看起來動作幾乎是一樣的。

要讓太極拳進步,很重要的一點是要實踐,在有限度的範圍內,了解拳術的使用法並加以練習,不然,就如同在岸上學游泳一樣,下水還是會溺水的。

實踐什麼,首先要先知道自己要學什麼樣的太極拳,先知道自己要什麼,才能判斷自己是否在正確的方向上前進,是趨近目標呢?還是在遠離目標?如果學的拳是要能養身、防身,另外還要能有機會示範一些不懂太極拳的人會覺得驚奇的技巧,那就要謹慎選擇老師及學習的方法。選對老師就能較他人進步快得多,之後,我會有專文討論怎麼選擇老師。



Someone told me that “Only the mad people will try to get different results from doing the same thing.” Although it’s so easy to understand, but a lot of people do this kind of things without realizing that.

So many people practice Taichiquan (Taijiquan) form in the park day after day, year after year. They never practice how to do self-defense and how to fight, but they believe they can have an insight of fight after long time practice of the form. That’s impossible. When people meet the opponent who has been trained for fight, the winner will be the one who has been trained for fight, not the one who has been trained for “Form”.

Just like learning swimming, some coaches teach the movement on land and request people to practice that on land. After a period of time, the coaches always ask people to practice that in water. Although the practice on land can also help people healthily, people can’t learn swimming on land even the movement looks the same.

The way to improve our Taichiquan skill is to practice. We need to know the way to use Taichiquan and then practice it. People who learn Taichiquan without knowing the method to use can’t use the Taichiquan to fight in fight. That is the same that people who practice swimming on land will be drowned in water.

We need to know which kind of Taichiquan (Taijiquan) we want. For fight only, for healthily only, or combined everything together. After we set our goal, we can measure if we got closer to our goal or not. Normally, we need to find a master to learn any kind of body skill, no mater it’s Taichiquan (Taijiquan) or Yoga. I will discussed how to pick a good master in next discussion.

6/7的練習: practice on 6/7

在練習小纏的過程中,陳師兄發現椿的強度會直接影響到小纏發勁的好壞,這也是為什麼我們在入門第一天就要求練習五弓大展椿的原因,我們沒有要求大家都先練個三、五個月椿才開始其它的練習的原因是因為這樣的學習,是很難提起現代人的興趣的,而且是不合時宜的,所以宗岳門在學員達到基本的要求後,我們就會進行下一個階段的訓練,當學生發現有需要回去補強各個練習時,學生自然會回去補強來增進自己的功力。
Mr. Chen found that the body structure ("Chun") will impact the "Small Twist Skill" a lot. That's why we teach people to practice five-bow stand at the first day. The reason why we do not practice only the five-bow stand in class for three to five month is that won't help people to keep practice Taichiquan (Taijiquan). People will feel that is boring and stop practicing Taichiquan.
ZongYue Taijiquan (Taichiquan) will keep teaching new skills when people reach the basic requiremtnt for five-bow stand. That will keep people learnning Taichiquan (Taijiquan). People will strengthen the five-bow stand when they feel that will help their new skill. That is what we want. We hope people can keep practice and strengthen everything they learned before.

今天和上週的練習一樣是在小纏發勁的部份,唯一不同的地方在於今天多了一位趙先生來拜訪,在宗岳門五弓椿的要求下,趙先生在短短的3分鐘內,就學會了能承受強大外力讓人推不動的椿,接下來,就只是要多加練習,讓舉手投足都能維持這樣的結構,趙先生也才了解了為什麼宗岳門強調的大鬆大柔並不是那種毫無威力的身體放軟而已,希望大家能多一點好奇心來參訪宗岳門的道館,大家應該都能有或多或少的收獲才是。

Today we still practice the "Small Twist Skill", and the only difference was we had a visitor, Mr. Zhao. Mr.Zhao learned our basic form of stand , Wu-Gong-Chun, which means five-bow stand, in 3 minutes. Five bows are two hands, two legs and our body. This kind of stand can sustain a powerful pressure.

I really hope everyone can keep the curiosity to contact the ZongYue Taichi. We all have the possibility to learn something from each other.

今天有一位趙先生與我約定前來道場試上一堂課程,他在多次迷失方向後,終於在接近中午的時候到達教室門口,看來,我網路上的地圖對於沒有來過本教室的人來說是十分困難找到的,這可是個大問題,所以我趕緊製作新的地圖放到招生網頁上去,希望大家能順利到達教室。

學弟的消息-News from a friend

在新竹教拳的李師兄昨天和我閒聊時談到向益,他是我中央大學太極拳外加電機系的學弟,而聊到他的主要原因是他現在和李師兄學習宗岳門太極拳。原來真正想學到太極拳內在深層功夫的人,都是不會滿足於套拳的修煉的,大家會尋師訪友,總是會找到一個能精進自己的方法,在此,預祝向益學拳順利,成功的學到想學到的。
Mr. Lee, who teaches ZongYue Taichi in Hsinchu, told me that one person who learns Taichi with him is Xiang-Yi. Oh....my.... Xiang-Yi is a friend I met in Taichi club in NCU. It's really a good news for me. That means when a person really want to realize the true Taichiquan he will never stop try to find out another way to practice besides Taichiquan Form.
Here I wish Xiang-Yi can learn what he want to learn and practice continually.

這週仍是練習小纏發勁,這個練習說難不難,說容易也真的不是那麼簡單,總是椿法要練到身上,能組合起來,才能在出手時產生威力,以下附上廖師兄和陳師兄本週練習的成果。
We are still focus on "Small Twist Skill" this week. This skill is not so hard to practice, but it need people to combine all the parts we learned in the basic form. The basic form is to learn how to adjust our badies for the better way of using power.

名片-Business Card

終於,設計好的名片做出來了,每次有人詢問,我總是沒法子給名片,用講的也不容易寫好網址,現在這個問題終於解決了,到時再有人詢問相關事宜,我就可以給名片囉!

Finally, the business card is ready. Before that, everytime when people ask me question about Taichi (Taiji), I can't provide my business card for them. It's hard to ask people remember the web-site and other contact way without business card.
Now, I can solve this problem by giving people business card!

5/17的練習: practice on 5/17

小纏發勁是多數人喜好做為功力顯現的一個指標 ,要求以動作不停頓,動作如行雲流水,切記小纏求直,大纏求曲。影片中廖師兄為第一次練習,尚無法做到動作不停頓就發人出去的情形,我相信,之後他將會大幅改善這個情況。
"Small Twist Skill" is a good way for most people to show how good they are. The key here is "Do not stop the motion". "Small Twist Skill" is focus on stright, and "Grand Twist Skill" is focus on curve.
We will record some video tape to show the different.
The below video is Mr.Liao's first practice. We believe that can be improved soon. Please watch new video a few weeks later.

今天上課的重點在片旋,每個門派都有自己練習外三合的方法,片旋是宗岳門練習外三合最基本也是重要的功法,其要點在於手起腳起,手落腳落。

Today's key movement is "Pian Xuan". Every martial art school has its own way to practice 3 combinations outside. "Pian Xuan" is the way ZongYueMen practice.

防身- Self-defense

大家都說,練武可以防身,卻不知道防身其實是一個非常重要的觀念,在練武前,就應該要具備的。什麼是防身呢?保護自身(含周遭所有人等)以避免危害就可稱為防身。People say that martial art can protect our life, however most people don't know self-defense is a very important concept before people learning martial art.
What is "Self-defense"? Self-defense (including other people) is to avoid the damage.

舉凡下雨撐傘、走斑馬線過馬路、走人行道通行等等,都是防身的觀念,不去危險機率大的地方,發生危險的機會也將相對少很多 ,也就是孔子所說"危城不入、亂邦不居"的概念。
For example, using the umbrella in a rainning day, and walking across the street by crosswalk. Do not go to a damger place then we can live safely. Just like Confucius said "do not get into dangerous city, and do not live in a dangerous country".

如果學了武術之後,不停的進出危險場所,沒事好勇鬥狠,早晚要出事的,到時,是要怪罪武術不好還是自己沒學好,其實,是根本的觀念出了問題,武術是在危急時救命用的,不是把救命的本領實際拿去危險的地方實際練習,演習也不會派兵到敵對國家邊境去讓對方有機會開火,一開火,演習就不是演習而是戰爭了。
If people learn martial art and keep stay in dangerous place to try to fight with other people, they would get hurt with no doubt. When they get hurt, they would complain the martial art is not so good for self-defense or they still need more practice. Actually, the root caouse is their main concept of self-defense.

防身也是如此,沒用上時學的是武術,當用上時就可能變成生死搏鬥,平時應該做的是在家或道館多練習,生活中少去那些相對危險的地方,這樣才是真正的防身及養身。
Self-defense is to keep practice martial art to keep our bodies healthy, and when we need to use that to protect our life, we will do our best as what we practice. But, please keep away from the dangerous place to learn the true self-defense.

4/26的練習: practice on 4/26

這一次的練習我們增加了一個新的練習項目,就是揮木刀,揮木刀要砍中帶刺,這個練習要求和發勁的要求相同,基本上,我是將其視為練習發勁除了推鐘式之外的另一種選擇。
In today's practice, we add one new item, "slash the backsword". The movement of slash the backsword includes the chop and lunge. This practice shows simuliar requirements as power push. (Actually not real power push, it's a energy flow push; but it shows like a very powerful push.)
接下來我們進入另一個我們宗岳門非常重要的一個練習,返身大纏。 返身大纏是使用空間技術去引化對手攻擊最大的引勁落空技術,在這個運行模式下的任一個點都是可以隨時因敵勁消失而反制對手的,凡學宗岳門太極拳者皆需多加練習。
The other main practice today is a very important skill, "Turn-back Body Grand Twist Skill". This one need us to use the space skill to absorb opponent's attack power directly (Luo Kong). In this tracking movement, we can return back to attack our opponents once his or her attack power is empty by the Luo Kong skill. Students in Zongyue Taiji (Taichi) school should practice this more.

內三合:3 combinations inside

內家拳術強調"內三合與外三合",所謂的內三合是內裡的功夫 ,指的是心與意合,意與氣合及氣與力合。 這裡粗淺的解說這三者分別是指什麼。
Internal Martial Art (for example: Taiji) emphasize that people need to check when practicing are "3 combinations inside and 3 combinations outside". The "3 combinations inside" check 3 different ways.
1st is to keep the Mind follow the Consciousness.
2nd is to keep the Consciousness follow the Chi.
3rd is to keep the Chi match with the Energy.

心與意合,心是指心裡所想的思想,意是指控制身上的意念,心與意合,白話來說,就是心裡所想的和身上的動作是吻合的。 這需要透過長時間的練習才能讓人想的和做的一致。
To keep the Mind follow the Consciousness.
Mind means what people thought. Consciousness point to the opinion which control our body movement. Simply say, what we thought should match what we do (movement). That will take time to practice.

Do not think other things when we do something. For example, do not consider anything excluded walking when you are walking. Jusk think about what we are doing now.

意與氣合,如同上段所說的,意念控制我們的身體,而這裡意念又引申去指被意念所指揮的身體動作,氣則是指我們練習拳術所使用的呼吸,簡言之,就是動作要和呼吸配合。
To keep the Consciousness follow the Chi. The consciousness here means not only opinions which control our bodies but also the body movements. Chi means the special way we breath when we practice Taichi. The whole thing just point out we need to keep our movement follow and match the breath.

氣與力合,其中力是指我們宗岳門特指的正力,呼吸引導出的動作要位在能發揮出正力的軌跡上。
To keep Chi match with the Energy.
The energy means the special position in which our body movement can gain the maximum energy (force). The movment which was lead by breath need to follow the special force track to produce the maxium energy (force).

整體而言,內三合就是一個身體動作運行的指導原則,心裡想的要和做的配合,動作又要配合呼吸而動,呼吸帶動的動作軌跡又要在能發揮出結構力的狀態。
In generally speaking, 3 combinations inside is a guildline of body movement. What we think need to match what we do, and what we do need to match the breath; the breath conduct the movement must follow the special move track to produce the power, energy, force.

這一天的練習主要集中在下壓肘,下壓肘亦是宗岳門練習中十分重要的一個引勁落空的手法,凡是力向有朝下的,原則上都是用下壓肘來引進的。在經過上翻肘及下壓肘的訓練後,兩位師兄也對太極拳由身上何處落空有較明確的了解。
4/19 practice focus on Down-Turn Elbow. Down-Turn Elbow is one of ZongYue Taiji Luo Kong skills. Please check the article of "Hollow out opponent attack".
Down-Turn Elbow is used when the direction of the opponent attack is from Upside to downside. This week we practice this skill for details. Next week we will focus on Turn-Body-Grand-tackle.

太極拳論Taijiquan Theory- Core Principle

太極拳論首見於清代的武禹襄先生,據他所言,這是從古蹟中挖出來的,拳論中對於太極拳練習的標準及原則都做了精闢的解釋,文章的署名為山右王宗岳,本門尊崇王宗岳先生對太極拳發展的偉大貢獻,故命名為宗岳門太極拳
Taijiquan Theory appeared in Ching Dynasty from Wu Taiji school's funder, Yu-xiang Wu. Master Wu told us that essay was found from a historic spot. The author of the article is Wang, ZongYue. Because Mr. Wang, ZongYue's Taijiquan Theory Essay provide the Taiji main structure and movement principle, we call our school as ZongYue Taiji (Taichi) to commemorate him.

我會將宗岳門宗長葉老師所解說的太極拳論,放到這來讓大家收看,並嚐試翻成英文,不過若有外國朋友真的想要學習,或許學中文會讓拳術進步的更快。
I will put the video that was explanation of Taijiquan Theory Essay by Master Ye. I will also try to translate to English, but if foreigner want to learn Taijiquan, to learn Chinese might help a lot when learning Taijiquan.

外三合--3 combinations Outside

內家拳術強調"內三合與外三合",所謂的內三合是內裡的功夫 ,指的是精氣神,外形上看不出來,先不去論它。外三合是指"手與腳合,肘與膝合,肩與胯合"。就字面上來說,外三合十分易懂,只要我們遵循它的要求進行就可以了。不過事實上,外三合需經由特殊的練習方式來達成。
Internal Martial Art (for example: Taiji) emphasize that people need to check when practicing are "3 combinations inside and 3 combinations outside". The "3 combinations inside" check inside human body, and that can't be seen by our body.
Here we just discuss the "3 combinations outside". The 1st one is to keep leg follow the hand. The 2nd is to keep the elbow work together with knee. The 3rd one is to keep the shoulder work with hipbone.

多數的中國武術練習外三合都是使用靜樁來練習,尤其是三體式。由於缺乏動態的外三合練習,這就造成靜止時是待合外三合標準,而動作過程中,卻往往是不符合外三合標準的姿勢,造成所謂的敗型,敗型雖然在面對不會防禦的一般人時仍能發揮作用,但對於有學習過武術的高手來說,那就是會遭到對方反制而失敗的動作。動態的外三合練習十分的簡單,外型看起來就像是在走路一般,重要的是要"分清虛實"且可以"片旋"來做主軸練習。
Most Chinese Martial Art practice this by motionless stand, and the most important stand is "San Ti". Due to short of motion practice of "San Ti" to keep the 3 combinations outside, many people only can follow the 3 combinations outside when stop. When they move, the whole body can't follow to rule. Some people might said that can still work. We know that can work when the opponent don't know how to defense, but for people who practice the martial art for years. That would be a dangerous thing. When we do thing without 3 combinations outside, that means we ask our opponent to attack us by our mistake.
The way we practice 3 combinations outside is easy. It looks like walking. The key point is follow the rule and use the "Pian Xuan" to rotate our body when we move.

太極拳的落空技術-Hollow out opponent attack

太極拳的「落空」技術出自於《打手歌》:「引進落空合即出。」所以宗岳門的宗長葉老師不斷的主張「落空」的原則是「引進落空」不能「引出落空」。
Taichi (Taiji) has a specific skill of how to avert the opponent attack which was called "Luo Kong". "Luo" means fall down, and "Kong" means empty. This specific skill is from a poem Attack Song : Drive attack inside and fall into empty; Close (or Merge) for drive inside out finally.
Base on the main instruction as Attack Song, ZongYue Taichi inist that "Luo Kong" should drive the opponent's power into our body at first step (before "Luo Kong")not outside our body.

這裡引用葉老師以前文章中所提的落空方式:「引進落空」就是引到沾衣處落空,引到見肉處落空;「引出落空」就是引離沾衣處,引離見肉處。一般的太極拳都是不斷的強調掤勁接敵,當能掤就不會讓人攻到身上,但這邊其實有一個假設前提的,就是掤勁能接得下對手的勁,最少也要能改變對手的勁線方向,帶出我們的身體外;而宗岳門這則強調,「落空」需要一點都不帶任何的勁,不但是要完全的隨著對方的動而動,還要更進一步的做到讓對方在不脫離的狀態下聽不到我們隨他而動的勁,這時才能做到「落空」。
Here we use Master Ye's explanation. When we drive the opponent's power in, we have to drive that power (or attack) to our clothes or our body withour any energy try to affect the direction. Other Taichi school will teach people to use energy to keep opponent's power out of our bodies, that also make sense when we use leverage to do so. The only difference between those two method is when we don't try to affect our opponent's power, our opponent won't feel what we try to do. That means, "Luo Kong" will really work to let they feel like we just disappear when they touch us.
What I mean disappear is not real disappear, it's a feeling. OK, for example. When will people fall down? When people think they can walk on the ground but the ground just become air then they will fall down.
That's what we try to do in ZongYue Taichi.

當然,「落空」是有技術運行原則的,首先要先能「躭肩」,這是一個完成沈肩動作時肩的狀態,這種人體的狀態需要教練直接示範並現場調整學員的肩,而無法直接由文字說明,基本上每個人都可以做到,難是難在要每一動都能保持在「躭肩」的狀態,能「躭肩」後才能「落空」,而後就可使用各種的不同的技法去運用了。
Of course, "Luo Kong" has a SOP (standard operation procedure) to follow. The first one is to control our shoulder sink (or fall). It's hard to discribe by word. That should be teached by master. For my personal experience, almost everyone can learn that. The problem to use that is people will forget to do so when they don't practice that become their auto-reaction.

太極拳秘密-連環:Huan

「連環」是由兩個斜角方位的「環」所組成,宗岳門所有的手法都在這兩個環內操作,任何動作不得離開環位。在這兩個斜角環之外的其他所有手或身體的繞圈動作,宗岳門都不稱為「環」而稱為「圈」,宗岳門只使用「環」作戰,絕不使用圈作戰。因此「宗岳連環」和其他全世界武術的 「連環」都不同,才特稱為 「宗岳連環」。 --宗岳門主網站葉老師


環 的位置很簡單,如同上圖中所示,右手的環為右手向前伸直,此時右手的掌指即為右手的前隅位置,當右手從前隅位置向上劃半圓到左肩的位置時,此方向為右手的後隅位置,而從後隅再向下劃到前隅的位置時,此為一個右手環位,且左右相對應,運行方向可順可逆,雙手合用,可作連環。
"Huan" is a specific name for a circle track that hand movement should follow in ZongYue Taichi. The huan has two different circles, one is for the right hand, the other is for the left hand. For the right hand, please check the upper picture. Raise the right hand infront of your body and keep the angle between body and hand as 90 degree. That positon is the front corner of the right-hand-huan. Keep the elbow fixed to raise the palm back to the left shoulder, back corner of the right-hand-huan. Keep the palm move down and back to the front corner. The whole circle is the right-hand-huan.
The left-hand-huan is move between left hand raise and the right shoulder.
When you know the correct movement of huan, people could use that for a continued circle to move our hand to punch or to lead the oppoment's attack. For the movement, it's hard to describe, but easy to show. Please come and see.

Practice palm motion- 4 levels-4th level 宗岳掌法的四個等級-4

斜角旋轉型掌法」是以揉掌法為根基,將採掌、列臂、肘尖、靠肩,依序全部進入斜角環位內,利用採列肘靠入斜角環,而帶動身步的指領式掌法,這種掌法是太 極祖師王宗岳祖師所訂定的太極拳標準技法,這是一種滔滔不絕的「旋轉技」,「旋轉技」讓武者在作戰時,能夠像波濤一般滾動旋轉,這樣的技術理論是王宗岳祖 師在太極拳中最早提出來的,所以是王宗岳太極拳的獨門技法。

In ZongYue style palm movement, we move our body from fingers, palm, elbow, and shoulder into correct positon "Huan". Huan is a pronounce of Chinese, and that means a track of circle. In ZongYue Taichi, we have a specific definition of Huan.

That kind of movement will keep our body spin and move circly around our opponent's body.
「斜角旋轉型掌法」其實並不難,但是練成之後,就永遠不會想用力量去戰鬥,也不必用力量去戰鬥,更不會像「避正打斜型掌法」那樣,會退轉回逆練太極的邪道,所以說唯有練習上等頂級的「斜角旋轉型掌法」,才能進入王宗岳太極拳的大鬆大柔,無力之道。
「斜角旋轉型掌法」是王宗岳太極拳方位技術的展現,王宗岳太極拳有自己獨特而且具有標準模組的斜角「旋轉原理」,讓太極拳能夠自然旋轉,這也是很多外門太 極拳不會旋轉而王宗岳太極拳會旋轉的原因,大家在分辨王宗岳太極拳和其他太極拳的時候,只要看他是否以「斜角旋轉型掌法」來用技就可以很簡單分辨出來。

This kind of skill is not so hard to learn, and once we realize that skill, people will not want to fight with a lot of hand power. Hand power is not necesary for this skill. So we need to learn this kind of skill for using Taichi to combat with whole body releaxing. We could use if people use this kind of palm movement to tell what kind of Taichi they practice. ZongYue Taichi will always practice with rotate-body style palm movement.

這四種掌法中,以「避正打斜型掌法」為最中等中級,這種掌法是藉著揉掌技術,利用避正打斜方式讓採列肘靠全都能夠以無力技術進入斜角,所以練到這種技術已經是內家無力技術的高手了,練到這種技術的人可以完全施展無力技術,如果能夠盡展精微,必是一流內家人才。

但是由於「避正打斜型掌法」只能用掌法帶動身體作出避正打斜,無法用掌法帶出步法,步法也無法進入斜角而成為環步,所以在技術上仍然受限很多。由於掌法帶 不出步法,所以在走步時就容易施展力量,如果技術不能向無力技術去要求,就會倒退回腳底領勁,和強調剛柔並濟的偏差之路。

內家拳本是「掌為先、以指掌領身步」,但「避正打斜型掌法」由於無法用掌法帶出步法,所以練得不精或練錯時,會強調「步為先」,或強調用「腳底湧泉帶動身 手」,變成以腳領身手的「逆練太極」,當然太極是不能逆練的,逆練之後就會變成故意打得軟軟,又強調剛柔並濟的半調子外家拳。

如果要避免「避正打斜型掌法」倒退回「逆練太極」的邪道。最好要學習四種掌法中,最高等高級的「斜角旋轉型掌法」,讓自己的太極拳永遠不會走回步為先、湧泉法的「逆練」窮途。

The 3rd level of palm motion is to turn our body for following the palm motion to avoid resist with our opponent.
The key point for this level to keep body follow the palm motion. I know a lot of different Taichi school will teach something like to turn the body first.

Please think about when a bad guy try to punch us, our first reaction is use our hand to grap that without any trainning. So, please follow the hand, not the body.

So, the palm motion need to keep no resist with opponent sequentially move by palm, elbow, then body.

這四種掌法中,以「正面揉掌型掌法」為最初等初級,基本上能夠學到揉掌的掌法,已經算是入內家之門了,因為揉掌的掌法算是無力技術的掌法,如果在自己練習 不受外力阻礙時,這種掌法不但是無力掌法,還是採列肘都入斜角的掌法。只是當敵人的力量向我衝入時,這種「正面揉掌型掌法」一但受到外力,列肘便受阻擋而 無法進入斜角,如果硬要進入斜角就會變成用力的有力技術了,所以這種掌法基本上仍然是作為基礎練而不用的。
The 2nd level is to keep the middle point of the forearm fixed.
The movement will become elbow up, palm down. That is a big difference with the original palm movement.
However, this type will still use the power to resist our opponent when you contact with your opponent. That's why we need to learn the 3rd level, to turn your body.

The performer is Mr. Lee. He also practices ZongYue Taichi.
宗岳門太極拳的掌法各有下述四個等級:

一.正面原始型掌法(低等低級)

二.正面揉掌型掌法(初等初級)

三.避正打斜型掌法(中等中級)

四.斜角旋轉型掌法(高等高級)

這四種掌法中,以「原始型掌法」為最低等低級,這種掌法只能拿來作為掌法的說明,不能拿來用技,所有原始型的掌法,都是「有力」的掌法,不能拿來作為太極拳無力技術使用。

譬如正面原始型的帶掌,動作和兩人在桌上比腕力的動作幾乎一模一樣,肘是靜止不動的,全靠小臂向下用力壓制,像這樣的帶掌,在宗岳太極拳中是禁用的,因為它屬於最低等級的有力技術。

很多學太極拳的人,之所以不能用出鬆柔無力的技術,主要是他們學到的都是這類,最低等級的正面原始型掌法卻不自知,所以練了幾十年,還是無法用出無力技術,從此一生就陷在非技術問題上打轉。


Dear all,

We all know that people who practice Taichi should practice without tight power.
But how many people know that we need to learn the 4 levels of palm-process (fighting skill)

The 1st level is the original track for using human hand.
We keep elbow fixed to move the hand.
That is only for explanation of motion, not for practice.
This kind of motion will use power to resist with opponent.
Actually, we need to avert this kind of motion if we really want to learn the Taichi for self-defense.

Although my master request me to teach Taichi and put that on-line since 2007, I still keep silence due to I feel that I am not in that level to teach. Yesterday is a perfect day for me to restart my Taichi practice. My mind just changed and believe that good things should share with other people. That's why I have this blog.

Since Jan-2008, I started to teach this with two of my friends. They enhence their skill in push hand and even more for release their body when practice. That's what I really want to see.

雖然我的老師(葉金山葉老師)從去年(2007)就不斷的要我們這批學生開始去教拳, 昨天我重新檢視我的太極拳, 我忽然想通了, 好的東西就應該和大家分享, 所以有了這個BLOG的存在

從今年的一月開始, 我開始用宗岳門的教學方式來指導兩位我的朋友, 雖然只經過了短時間的練習, 他們對推手及太極拳所要求的放鬆都有了長足的進步
